WHO WE ARE

At the Lahaie Luna Lezama NGO, a registered not-for-profit organization, we strive to aid and empower women in socio-economically disadvantaged conditions by helping them get access to environmentally and economically sustainable and reusable menstrual hygiene products.

We strongly believe that all women deserve to menstruate with dignity, and that menstrual hygiene is not a luxury but rather a fundamental human right.

PROJECTS - PROYECTOS

- EMPOWERING WOMEN -

The Lahaie Luna Lezama NGO is committed to having a positive impact on women. The work we do at our not-for-profit organization is aimed at providing a holistic approach to solving some of our society’s biggest challenges. We make sure our partners are empowered by creating opportunities for individuals and communities.

  "CONTIGO AMIGA, VENEZUELA 2018"

Our pilot project "Contigo Amiga, Venezuela 2018" ("With you my friend, Venezuela" in Spanish) took place in Caracas, Venezuela in August 2018.  This project helped over 100 women living in socio-economically disadvantaged conditions have a dignified menstruation via the donation of menstrual cups.

The Lahaie Luna Lezama NGO collaborated with staff from PLAFAM. PLAFAM is a non-profit institution focused on the sexual and reproductive health and has four locations in Caracas.

"DERECHOS DE LAS MUJERES EN               SITUACIÓN MOVILIDAD HUMANA" - 2019

                                                ---

   - COLOMBIAN BORDER, TÁCHIRA STATE, VENEZUELA⁣ -

This project collaborated with the Justice and Peace Center (CEPAZ), in partnership with the Venezuelan Association of Alternative Sexual Education (AVESA), Mujeres en Línea and the Hispano-American Center para la Mujer Freya, and the Embassy of Canada in Venezuela and supported the construction of knowledge that promotes reflection on sexual health and reproductive health of women with an ecological approach⁣.

This initiative helped approximately 400 migrant women at the Colombian border with the state of Táchira, Venezuela⁣ in February 2019, and significantly reduced the obstacles associated with menstruation for these women who are in an extremely vulnerable position⁣.

COLABORACIÓN CON EL LABORATORIO DE REPRODUCCIÓN HUMANA DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE CARABOBO - 2019-2022

- EDO. CARABOBO Y DISTRITO CAPITAL, VENEZUELA⁣ -

     ---

 - CARABOBO STATE & CAPITAL DISTRICT, VENEZUELA⁣ -

This project was in collaboration with el Laboratorio de Reproducción Humana de la Universidad de Carabobo (reprolabuc)

Using the Saalt Giving Tuesday Grant that was awarded to us in 2019, our slightly delayed project (due to the COVID-19 pandemic) was initiated in August 2022. In addition to donating menstrual cups, we provided information on menstrual health and how to properly use and care for the menstrual cup. Our initiative saw over 100 women per day over the span of 3 weeks!

Given that this project included scientific research, each consenting participant answered our questionnaire, where we collected data on demographic and reproductive health variables.
